Another lady and I spotted these chairs at Goodwill at virtually the same moment. I saw her checking them out...they were black then, with needlepoint seats that featured a drab Asian design. I hung nearby, waiting for her to make a move. She inspected them, called her husband over to inspect them, turned them over, sat on them, bounced on them, then - walked away! I immediately picked up the two objects of my desire and carried them to the cash register.
They are similar to post-Civil War chairs my mother left me, except they have hand-carved flowers and leaves at the top of the back. They are also more petite. I painted them bright red, painted the carved floral design to accentuate it, then covered up the needlepoint with pieces of a hand-woven table runner from somewhere in Central of South America - I don't know the country.
