This chair lived outside for a long time in my Orange County friend's giant heap of junk on her back patio. My daughter and I helped her sort through the pile on the condition that we could keep anything she didn't want. This chair caught my eye immediately...it was old and wooden and beat up, but full of heart.
When we needed a break from sorting, we all went to her local Goodwill (for a different sorting adventure) where I happened upon an amazing beaded purse from Bangladesh. Not only was it beaded, but it featured columns of small white seashells pierced and sewn onto the purse's front.
As soon as I got back to my workshop, I cut the Bangladeshi purse apart and embroidered the best part onto a custom seat cushion made of hand-woven, bright blue fabric from Guatemala. The chair got a coat of apple green paint. I'd been saving the colorful fish napkin rings for the perfect application - and this chair was it. Voila!
