I found this gorgeous Guatemalan hand-woven textile at a thrift shop in a little town in the mountains an hour from my desert home. I was rooting through racks and bins with my daughters and sister-in-law, not finding anything particularly amazing, although the rest of my party was having better luck...We were headed to the checkout area with their treasures when my eyes landed on the big, folded length of bright blue striped fabric just sitting there waiting for me to notice it. I lunged. The checker said offhandedly, "Oh yeah, someone just dropped that off..." YEEEHAWWWWW!
The sturdy, salvaged chair beneath the seat cushion received a coat of pumpkin orange paint. Indigo beads - plus rectangular and triangular wooden and plastic tiles (rescued from a heap of discarded math manipulatives) in bright yellow and green - complete the design and complement the stripes and patterns in the fabric.
