TEA FOR TWO
While most nichos require a nail and a wall to strut their stuff, this baby is free-standing. Each shelf is occupied by an accoutrement integral to the tea-drinking ritual, plus a pair of thirsty animals ready to belly up to the pot. On the top level we have two plastic pelicans (or are they pteranodons?). In the middle, two little ceramic fish (beads in a previous life) perch and prepare to dive into a cup of Earl Grey. On the bottom, what used to be lobster earrings have been liberated from their former role so they can wrap their claws around the sugar bowl. Behind the couples and their tea party equipment are Loteria cards from Mexico. Creating a spray of color and light across the to of the nicho are ornamental toothpicks - no doubt intended to be stabbed through dainty watercress sandwiches - topped with brightly painted beads.
