We know that on the third day, He rose again...

Perhaps on the first and second day He went for a refreshing swim.

I am always on the lookout for Christian-themed items as I prowl through my local thrift shops and yard sales.  But I have one inviolable rule:  If Jesus looks sad, I do not buy the thing.  So one day I came upon a lovely plastic crucifix and was conflicted.  Although Christ's death had to happen in order for Him to fulfill His role as our Savior, it was still a tragic event in the life of a young man and those earthly friends and family members who loved Him.  So this should have been off limits.

Nevertheless, the curlicue cross on which this particular Jesus hung was quite ornate  - too lovely  to walk away from.  It was calling to me...so I began trying to figure out how I could use just that, without Jesus, so as not to be disrespectful.

As I turned the piece around looking for ways to detach Him without damaging Him or the cross itself, I suddenly realized that - when held upside down - this Jesus appeared to be diving joyously  and gracefully into a pool!

Separating Him from the elaborate cross proved to be easy. Neither was harmed in the process.

Then, remembering the loaves and fishes story, I created a landscape using pictures of various types of bread.  Little ceramic fish beads purchased at the county fair a few years ago and plastic plants from my daughter's defunct goldfish tank populate the sea.  Pearls from a big bag of junk jewelry purchased from  Goodwill decorate the frame, as do wooden angelfish earrings.  Bottle caps (thanks, Ronnie) on the outer surfaces contain images of Jesus' countenance charred into toast and oysters spewing an abundance of pearls from their slimy insides.  Last but not least, the Pearly Gates are up in the sky, patiently waiting for Jesus to wrap it up, towel off, and come home.
