Royal Blue Sari Chair
Had enough of Latin America and the stranger parts of my imagination? Then try this piece of pseudo Indian Subcontinent folk art on for size. The chair was given to me by a friend who was remodeling her house. I'd already turned one chair from her old dining room set into a fabulous African throne. This one, however, screamed, "Make me glamorous!" So I found an oil- stained sari at Goodwill, salvaged the most beautiful/ornate/elegant parts, and turned it into a seat cushion. The chair proper was given a make-over...no longer merely conventional brown wood, the foundation for this creation is now dazzlingly hot pink with silvery Henna Tattoo-style curlicues, flourishes, flowers, and geometric designs plus big blue "jewels" made from melted glass and beer bottle caps. What girly girl wouldn't want this brightening up her living quarters and making her think of exotic spices, silks, and body art?
